Richmond, Va. (August 29, 2024) – The Virginia Early Childhood Foundation (VECF) is pleased to announce that Dr. David Doré, Chancellor of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), has been elected to the organization’s board of directors.
As the tenth chancellor to lead the VCCS since it was founded in 1966, Doré provides day-to-day leadership for a system comprised of 23 colleges that serves more than 200,000 degree-seeking and workforce-career training students annually. A staunch student advocate, he is laser-focused on recruiting “new majority learners” – those who face limited job prospects because they lack post-high school credentials.
Prior to taking the reins at the VCCS, he served as President of Campuses and Executive Vice Chancellor at Pima Community College in Pima County, Arizona. There, he led the college’s five campuses and workforce development initiatives. Earlier in his career, he served in higher education positions in Tempe, Arizona, and San Francisco, California, in addition to 20 years as a full-time faculty member at the community college university and secondary levels.
Doré earned his doctorate in education at Pepperdine University. He holds master’s degrees from Georgetown University, Boston College, and Santa Clara University; an advanced degree in philosophy from Gonzaga University; and a bachelor’s degree from Gannon University.
In July 2024, Doré joined top executives across economic development, business, education, and philanthropy to launch VECF’s Shovel Ready Virginia Task Force in a collective effort to build the supply of high-quality early childhood care and education services as well as the pipeline of dedicated, talented early educators.
“We welcome Dr. David Doré to our inspiring team of board members driving progress toward our mission,” said Kathy Glazer, President of the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation. “He shares our strong commitment to creating pathways in the state’s community college system that will nurture and grow a quality early education workforce in the Commonwealth.”
